Empress Editions Acquires World Rights to The Cabernet Club Series
A Warm, Witty, and Wonderfully Late-Blooming Journey from Mother-Daughter Duo Rona S. Zable and Margie Zable Fisher
CAMBRIDGE, MA — September 25, 2025 — Empress Editions has acquired exclusive world rights to The Cabernet Club, a sparkling, multi-book series co-authored by late journalist and novelist Rona S. Zable and her daughter, New York Times–published writer Margie Zable Fisher.
Set in a delightfully offbeat Florida retirement community, The Cabernet Club follows newly-retired legal secretary Debbie Gordon as she attempts to finally “get a life”—before her six-month lease (and shot at freedom) runs out. With her daughter threatening to move her into the in-law suite in Delaware, Debbie must find friendship, romance, and a reason to stay in the Sunshine State—or risk becoming the world’s oldest unpaid babysitter.
Brimming with humor, heart, and a perfectly poured glass of cabernet, The Cabernet Club is a joyful ode to reinvention at any age—and a love letter to late-in-life friendship, second chances, and mother-daughter legacies that span generations.
“Rona and Margie have written the Golden Girls reboot we all deserve,” said Alisa Kennedy Jones, Publisher of Empress Editions. “This series is hilarious, heartfelt, and exactly what women want to read right now. Rona’s voice was sharp and soulful, and Margie’s wit and warmth brought it all home.”
“Writing The Cabernet Club with my mom was our way of laughing through life’s hardest curveballs,” said Margie Zable Fisher. “We wanted to show that it’s never too late to find your people—or your purpose. Plus, Florida is funnier than fiction.”
Rona S. Zable (1934–2023), who published three YA novels with Bantam Doubleday Dell and served for two decades as editor of SeniorScope, collaborated on the project with her daughter Margie Zable Fisher, a journalist and former publicist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, AARP, Fortune Well, Next Avenue, and more.
The first book in The Cabernet Club series is set for release on February 10, 2026, in time for Galentine’s Day, with subsequent titles to follow through 2027. The series will be published across formats via Empress Editions’ global sales and distribution partnership with Hachette Book Group.
With this acquisition, Empress Editions continues its mission to spotlight visionary women writers telling transformative midlife stories—with style, spirit, and just the right amount of sass.
