Training for a race is one of the best ways to hold yourself accountable to an exercise routine. Runners, cyclists, swimmers and more fitness fanatics set their sights on the finish line to keep showing up for workouts — and to avoid forfeiting sometimes hefty entrance fees.
But COVID-19 threw a wrench into many racing plans. Almost overnight, countless in-person events were canceled. To fill the void, some races have been reimagined as virtual events, and new virtual races have also popped up in the weeks since.
